Opening The Doors In Dallas

It began on August 27, when we hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Rolex Building in Dallas, Texas, which serves as both the headquarters for the RWTC and the campus for our students and faculty. Luca Bernasconi, President and CEO of Rolex USA, and Mark Goldberg, CFO of Rolex USA, both joined us from New York City, along with key members of the Texas-based team that have brought these facilities to life and set the RWTC up for success. Additionally, we hosted a very special guest in Scott C. Miller, the United States Ambassador to Switzerland and Lichtenstein, emphasizing the important connection between the United States and Switzerland represented by the RWTC. The day began with an official ceremony and continued with tours of the facilities and time spent together as a team.

“The most exciting thing for me about the ribbon-cutting was seeing it come together so beautifully and sharing that moment with everyone who contributed to the realization of the school,” says program director Rachel Wolf. “I want everyone to feel a sense of ownership and pride in the Rolex Watchmaking Training Center and I think that was achieved.”

With the doors officially open, the RWTC was ready to welcome its first cohort of students, who arrived and began their watchmaking journey on September 3. The 27 students come to the program representing 14 different states, from Florida to California and Alaska to Hawaii. They will spend the next 18 months honing their new craft, learning watchmaking theory and foundational technical skills for the first 12 months, and then moving on to spend the final six months focused specifically on Rolex watches, as they work within the Rolex Network and prepare for their final exams at Rolex Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

“We have a terrific first class of students who have demonstrated their enthusiasm and commitment since day one,” continues Wolf. “Having them on-site and participating in the program has been really inspiring for me to witness. I am already impressed by their daily progress and by their joy – which is truly the best part.”

And, importantly, these students represent just the beginning of what the Rolex Watchmaking Training Center is poised to accomplish over the coming years, and beyond. As we continue to learn and grow with experience, we will continue to find new ways to make positive impacts both on the lives of our students and faculty and on the broader watchmaking industry. The goal is to ensure a bright future for mechanical watchmaking as a career path and to safeguard the important crafts and skills required to keep Rolex watches running long into the future.

With our first class of students hard at work, applications are now open for our 2025 cohort. You can find the full application here and learn a bit more about what a career as a watchmaker might look like here. Applications are open through January 15, 2025, and we look forward to seeing who will join our fantastic community next.
